Catira Vargas is a multidisciplinary artist and designer who finds inspiration at the intersection of science, fashion, and art. Born in Puerto Rico to a Colombian father, she blends her Caribbean roots with her passion for sustainability and craftsmanship.
Catira’s unique journey began with geology, where she developed a deep appreciation for the natural world. Transitioning to fashion design, she honed her creative vision, exploring innovative ways to merge ecological responsibility with bold, experimental aesthetics. Alongside her visual pursuits, she is musically literate and classically trained, with 10 years of experience in classical music that has shaped her sense of rhythm, harmony, and discipline.
Her work spans fashion, fine art, and textiles. When time permits, she explores her love for making large-scale woven paintings in leather and cotton. These pieces aim to evoke a sense of well-being and internal connection, merging traditional techniques with contemporary forms. Catira’s dream is to create art that not only tells a story but also fosters healing and reflection for those who experience it.
Catira’s designs celebrate cultural heritage and sustainability while pushing boundaries in interdisciplinary art. Right now, she focuses on her commercial handbag brand that supports skilled artisans in Colombia with a living wage and fair working conditions.
