Balenciaga Transmissions Inspiration This project draws from Victorian-era garden attire and Balenciaga’s iconic balloon silhouettes, merging historical elegance with contemporary design. The result is a striking interpretation of craftsmanship and modern couture. Program Recognition This piece was created as part of an exclusive, invite-only program that selected top students from the 12 best design universities worldwide. The program emphasized innovation, technical skill, and bold experimentation in fashion design. Materials & Techniques The centerpiece of this project is a handwoven leather corset. Each leather strand was meticulously woven by Catira Vargas in her apartment in Medellín, requiring over 60 hours of dedicated craftsmanship. The result is a piece that balances structure and fluidity. Creative Highlights The fusion of Victorian aesthetics with Balenciaga’s avant-garde forms showcases a deep respect for fashion history while pushing the boundaries of contemporary design. The garment’s intricate craftsmanship exemplifies the skill and vision required to excel at this elite level.
